Responding to Hurricane Sandy

By now we've all seen the pictures of devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy.  Please keep in your prayers the many people who have lost a loved one or are displaced from their homes.

If you feel called to contribute money to the cleanup efforts, please visit Presbyterian Disaster Assistance for information.  This reputable organization is known to direct an extremely high percentage of donations to the people who need them, with very little reserved for overhead expenses. Our congregation has worked with them in the past, both through financial donations and mission trips.

We pray that you and your family have weathered the storm in safety.

All-Committee Night schedule change

Due to Election Day on Tuesday, Nov. 6, our monthly All-Committee Night will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 7 instead.  We hope our committee members use their extra time to go to the polls on election day.

Fall time is Stewardship time

Although Stewardship is really a state of mind that lasts all year,  the fall months are when we consider our estimates of giving for the following calendar year.  Stewardship information was distributed at our annual luncheon on Sept. 30, and Minutes for Mission have been presented each Sunday at Worship.  On November 4, our Estimate of Giving cards will be dedicated during Worship.  Now is the time for prayerfully considering our financial support of the church for the coming year.

As we were reminded during our Minute for Mission today, even small changes can yield large results.  If each member were to increase their giving by the equivalent of one order of pizza delivery each week, the results would be in the tens of thousands of dollars!

Food for Hope - Donations Always Appreciated!

On the second and fourth Saturdays of every month, nonperishable food items are distributed to those in need.  In recent months, 40 - 50 bags of food have been given out each time.  If you would like to contribute to this ongoing ministry, your support of money or food items would be greatly appreciated.  Checks may be made out to Memorial Presbyterian Church of Fox Chase, with "Food for Hope" on the memo line.  Food items may be dropped off at the church on Sunday mornings, or at another time by appointment (215-745-2844).  The following food items are part of regular distributions:

cold cereal
canned tuna and spam
macaroni and cheese boxes
canned fruit and vegetables
canned soup
powdered milk
boxes of pudding and jello mix
cake and brownie mix
tea bags
